BACKGROUND: Health care professionals play a key role in obtaining family authorization for organ donation and in recognizing and maintaining potential donors.
AIMS: To evaluate scientific knowledge and personal beliefs in the health care personnel of a large Italian hospital.
STUDY DESIGN: 1793 employees of Verona Hospital, North-Eastern Italy, were administered an anonymous questionnaire, comprising 29 questions on scientific knowledge and personal beliefs about brain death, organ donation and transplantation. A final response rate of 74.8% was achieved.
RESULTS: Data elaboration and interpretation is currently in progress.
