The group of research investigates the interdisciplinary field of law and literature.
Law and literature have been matched by a new-born field of interdisciplinary studies developed within the principles of the Common Law. In the last thirty years, law and literature, analysed and investigated side by side, have gained in popularity on the international scene.
Scientific research on “law and literature” is based on integrating law (comparative law in particular), literary criticism and literature both on the ontological and the hermeneutical plane, and literary methodology. On the one hand, then, legal methodology could assist scholars in analysing and understanding literary texts by implementing tools and strategies typical of the law. On the other hand, by contrast, literary methodology could offer jurists a novel key to the understanding of legal texts. Thus, both literary criticism and studies of comparative law are approached in a wholly new perspective.
The group of research collaborates with many European and Extra-European institutions, such as Cardozo School in Law and Literature (New York), Birkbeck College (London, Newcastle School of Law, Warwick School of Law, University of Wollongong (Australia), University of Koeln, University of Muenster, Villa Vigoni Italo-German centre of studies, Erasmus University of Rotterdam, Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, University of Stirling, University of Texas at Dallas. It is connected to the Associazione Italiana di Diritto e Letteratura AIDEL (www.aidel.it). It has as its scientific organ the journal Polemos, a Journal of Law, Literature and Culture and the series Law and Literature, both published by DeGruyter in Berlin.
